We at the Birmingham A’s would like to invite your school to take part in a fun and engaging educational programme being delivered by the Birmingham A’s Basketball Club.

The A’s will be delivering the Hoops4Health programme to schools across Birmingham. We have teamed up with the PCT, the Stop Smoking Service and the British Basketball League in order to design and deliver the Hoops4Health programme.

Each school will have an educational road show delivered to their children in 20 minute segments on food and nutrition, fitness and excersize and anti-smoking with the added benefit of 6 hours of flexible basketball coaching and 6 hours of health education delivered in the classroom by Primary School Education students is included.

( These hours can be delivered on an  independant weekly basis, or if you so wished combined with the school curriculum )

All our staff are fully CRB checked. Sign up now and your school will be eligible to have a team compete to play for a place at the BBL Hoops4Health finals at the NIA next May!

The Hoops4Health Road show consists of four main area’s delivered in a two hour time slot all are delivered by basketball player/coaches, PCT representatives and the Stop Smoking service. If our partners are not able to deliver the road show all of our players have undergone training in all fields of delivery.

Fitness and Exercise

A fun and interactive way to get the children thinking about the way that their body works. Coaches will teach children about the heart, how to check for pulse, what raises the pulse, various activities to get the pulse racing, why you should try to keep healthy.

Food and Nutrition

Children will be taught in a fun way about the importance of a balanced meal. How to make good choices with food, how to read nutrition labels, the importance of lowering your fat and sugar intake. This station has proven to be popular.

Anti Smoking

This station is delivered by using a number tools such as a carbon monoxide reader, tar in a jar and other things provided by the Stop Smoking Service. Highly educational and interesting, the props and information is definitely one to have the children engaging and talking about.

Basketball

There is an initial half hour of basketball coaching included in the road show in order to gain interest in the sport and to gauge what the uptake would be if the school were interested in setting up an after school club or district tournament. There are six hours free coaching available to the school as part of the package which are flexible to the school to have delivered in any way that they wish.

Class Room Delivery

Your school will be provide with a health educator that will deliver to your pupils in the classroom for 6 weeks.
